The Cathay microfiber sheet set is made out of 100% polyester microfiber. I originally felt that it was on-par with the typical cheap store brand sheets that are made out of the cheap polyester material one would find used for button-up shirts. However, the Cathay brand sheets use a slightly more refined microfiber material.

It is still somewhat shiny, but the thread count or texture feels more refined but is still soft and comfortable against bare skin. The first time I washed these sheets, I got a lot of fuzz, loose threads, and other excess material onto other clothes and onto the dryer screen. In my experience, this type of microfiber is easy to clean and will last for years if not a decade or longer.

The only areas of the sheets that have the black design are at the very edge of the comforter sheet and the pillow case. The main mattress covering does not have that design, and this covering is sized for a very thick twin mattress but fits over thinner mattresses just fine.

I felt that this sheet case was well made and the material is very comfortable. However, I would say that it is only slightly overpriced but the material is just better made and put together than a slightly less expensive sheet set. Others may not like the feel of polyester, but I am not a fan of cotton or its feel against my skin. Cotton and poly-cotton tend to pill up, while polyester microfiber tends to stay smooth and silky for years and years.

Overall: 5/5 stars, but your mileage may vary. I like the feel of polyester against my skin - that goes for socks, shirts, pants, underwear, racing undersuits, etc... Well made and stitched, refined material quality compared to slightly less expensive store brand polyester sheets.
